Galaxy S8 vs LG G6: Which one should you pick?

Almost all the leading smartphone manufacturers have launched their editions of this year’s flagships, and for those waiting for the latest ones, it’s a time of confusion. While we have already reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S8 and made a comparison between the S8 and the Apple iPhone 7 in a separate article, we thought it would help if we compared it with the LG G6 as well. So here we go, let’s have a round of The Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6.

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6: Stunning looks vs Practicality

When it comes to looks, Samsung has left no stone unturned this time with the Samsung Galaxy S8. The S8 looks a piece of future tech to the eyes. This goes without saying that it is so far the best-looking smartphone ever created.

That said, the Samsung S8 has certain flaws in its design language as well. It is a true fingerprint magnet. The biggest let down of this device is the ever awkward positioning of the fingerprint scanner, making it almost next to useless.

It is positioned at a place which is almost inaccessible without getting uncomfortable. Additionally, the shape of the sensor is not ergonomic either. A more rounded shape could have made things better, but what is done is done.

Other than these two issues, however, we don’t seem to find any other flaw in the design of the S8 and it is something which would catch anyone’s attention for sure.

LG G6, on the other hand, relies more on a traditional, brick design. While it won’t have that appeal when compared to the S8, it is nothing less than a good looking smartphone in itself. It is a subtle, more solid looking device and is fairly comfortable to hold.

The rounded corners of the S8 and the glass design also make it more fragile.

The S8 wins in the looks department, whereas the G6 takes the lead when it comes to fingerprint scanner placement as well as durability.

So if design and looks are the points of talk, it would completely be a matter of choice as both of the devices has an aspect or two in which they could be better. So the result is a draw.

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6: The Display

When it comes to displays, Samsung has always had an upper hand due to its proprietary super  AMOLED panels.

They ensure a punchy, vibrant color gamut which no other form of display can offer. Additionally, it helps in battery saving as well.

The LG G6 has the best display LG has come up with so far. The colors are vibrant, the pictures look sharp as a knife. But sadly, it just can not be at par with the S8.

The Galaxy S8 wins this round hands down.

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6: The power

Turns out the early release did not go into LG’s favor in terms of processor choice.

The LG G6 runs on the now old Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset with 4 GB of RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU.

Samsung on the other hand, have made use of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset under the hood for the Galaxy S8.

This does not make a huge impact practically, as the difference in the performance between the two is around 15 to 20 percent.

But again, who does not want the latest in fashion right? Additionally, the latest processor takes good care in optimizing battery performance for the devices. This also goes in favor of the S8 (Which has a slightly smaller, 3,000 mAh battery vs the 3,300 mAh one in the G6)

Clearly, the S8 gets the upper hand in this front.

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6: The Camera

Honestly, the camera is one thing I care too less about. But again, the article is not for me right?

On the camera front, the S8 has a 12-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilizationf/1.7 aperture, phase detection autofocus and  f/1.4µm pixel size for better low light photos.

The LG G6, on the other hand, has dual 13 MP cameras, one with f/1.8 aperture, 3-axis stabilization and phase detection autofocus and the other with f/2.4 aperture and a super-wide 125° field of view.

The images produced by both the smartphones are absolutely stunning. The G6, however, produces more life-like images so to say.

The wide-angle camera of the G6 helps it take better pictures with a much wider view of the area.

The S8 shoots some pretty decent images as well. but truth be told, the S8 seems to have paid lesser attention towards its camera. The G6 wins this round.

Here are some of the images taken from the LG G6 camera:

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6: The UI

When it comes to the UI of smartphones, I am among those strange people who love Samsung’s Touchwiz. That custom skin of Samsung was so hated that Samsung had to finally get rid of the name (most of the design elements are still there, so they practically just got rid of the name and tweaked it a bit)

While the LG G6 offers a more stock-like UI with some pretty useful additions under the skin, it’s the Samsung S8 which wins this round, owing to the addition of the Bixby, Samsung’s own virtual assistant.

Bixby has a promising future and since it is an integral part of the S8 family, it has made the device all the way more useful. This is something which makes the device stand apart from the rest. The It Factor we always love to have on our phones.

Additionally, the presence of the Samsung DeX goes into the S8’s favor as well.

The S8 wins this round, owing to productivity.

Ultimately, it’s all a matter of personal choice. Which phone do you think wins the round?
